Best for
Portals and job applications with a 2 MB attachment limit.
Main limitation
A mostly-text document already under a few megabytes has little left to remove.

How to use this tool

  1. Upload the PDF you want to shrink to about 2MB.
  2. Click "Compress to ~2 MB."
  3. We recompress the images at progressively stronger settings until the file fits, or report the closest size we could reach.
  4. Review the result, then download.

Why use iBuildPDF

2MB is the usual allowance on job application portals and document upload forms. Because the budget is generous, this tool can normally hit it with only light compression, keeping scans and photographs noticeably sharper than a 500KB target would.

How it works

Each attempt recompresses the images embedded in your PDF at a lower resolution and quality, rebuilds the file and checks the result against 2MB, stopping at the first setting that fits — usually a lighter pass than the 500KB or 1MB tools need, since the target is larger. Your text, vector graphics, links and form fields are left untouched throughout; the pages themselves are never redrawn. Only if every image pass still misses 2MB does the tool fall back to converting the pages to images, and it says so on the result when that happens, because that copy no longer has selectable text. Very large PDFs may still not reach 2MB while staying legible, and we tell you honestly when that happens.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PDF always end up under 2MB?

Almost always. 2MB is a comfortable target, and because it is a looser budget we can usually reach it on a lighter setting than the 500KB or 1MB tools need — which means your document keeps more of its detail.

Should I use 2MB rather than a smaller target?

If the limit you have been given is 2MB, yes — compressing further than you need only throws away image quality for nothing. Use the smallest target that actually clears the limit you are facing.
