Size, shape and repair
Two different problems live here. Compressing to a target size works backwards from a budget — it tries progressively stronger settings until the file fits, and tells you honestly when a document cannot get there without becoming unreadable. Repair and resize are structural: they rebuild the document's page tree rather than its content, which is why they can fix a file that a viewer refuses to open.
