Why use iBuildPDF
Most free PDF editors can only put a white box over the old words and type on top, in a font that does not match — and the old text is still there underneath. Here the old line is really removed and the new words are drawn in its own font, size and colour, so the page looks as if it had been written that way.
How it works
Your browser shows each page and finds its lines of text. You type your changes over them. When you save, our server takes each changed line off the page — leaving everything around it untouched — and draws the new words in the same place, in the original size, font family, colour and weight (the nearest installed font where the original is not available). Lines you did not touch are not changed at all.
Frequently asked questions
Will the new text match the old font?
It keeps the size, colour, weight and slant of the line, and the same font family where our server has it — common ones like Arial, Times, Calibri and Cambria match closely. A rare or custom font is replaced by the nearest one.
Is the old text really gone?
Yes — the changed line is removed from the page, not covered, so it cannot be copied or found by search. In the rare case a line cannot be separated from the text next to it, it is covered with the colour around it instead.
How is this different from the PDF Editor?
The PDF Editor adds new things on top of a page — text, shapes, highlights, pictures. Edit PDF Text changes the words that are already in the document.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
A scan is a picture of a page, so there is no text to change. Run it through “Make a scanned PDF searchable” first, or turn it into an editable Word document with PDF to Word.
What happens to my file?
The pages are shown in your browser. When you save, the PDF and your changes go over an encrypted connection to our own server, and both are deleted when the job finishes.
