Best for
Receipts, documents and whiteboards photographed on an iPhone, for email, printing or upload forms that only take PDF.
Main limitation
One photo per conversion. For several photos, convert each and join them with Merge PDF. A burst or Live Photo gives its main picture.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a .heic or .heif photo — the format iPhones and iPads save pictures in.
  2. Pick the page: the photo’s own size, A4 or US Letter.
  3. Press “Convert to PDF”. The photo is sent over an encrypted connection.
  4. Download the PDF.

Why use iBuildPDF

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but many Windows computers, office systems and upload forms cannot open it. A PDF opens everywhere, prints at the right size and can be emailed, merged with other pages or signed.

How it works

The photo is decoded on our own server by heif-convert, the standard open-source HEIF decoder, the right way up as the phone held it. The picture goes into the PDF exactly as decoded, with no second compression, so it keeps its quality. Choose the photo’s own page size for a picture-perfect page, or A4 / Letter to print it with a margin.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos since iOS 11. It stores the same picture as a JPEG in about half the space, but many programs outside Apple’s cannot open it.

Will the photo lose quality?

No visible loss. It is decoded once at high quality and placed in the PDF as it is, without being compressed again. To make the file smaller for email afterwards, use Compress PDF.

Can I convert several photos into one PDF?

Convert them one at a time, then put the PDFs together with Merge PDF — you can choose the order of the pages there.

Why does my iPhone sometimes send JPEG instead?

When you share or upload a photo, iOS often converts it to JPEG on the way. If you already have a .jpg, use JPG to PDF instead; this tool is for the original .heic files, for example copied from the phone to a computer.

What happens to my photo?

It is sent over an encrypted connection to our own server, converted there, and deleted when the job finishes. Nobody looks at it.
